Just some news about Media Converter

May 31st, 2009 96 comments

Hi everyone

Now it’s more than a month ago since you have heard from me the last time. I was quite busy the last few weeks and hadn’t a lot of time for Media Converter.
But today I removed the bug that failed conversions decreased the conversion limit as well. Now they do not count anymore.

The Youtube problem is still not fixed as it is a bit more complicated as it may look like. I can not cancel my servers in Germany as I have contracts for a whole year.  Setting up a proxy server in every country is a bit senseless and too expensive. But there is a little hope as Youtube and the music association of Germany are getting back to the round table to discuss the licenses again. Maybe Youtube can unblock the music videos soon. Don’t await too much .. maybe they’ll find a solution or not. Anyway …  I’ll keep you informed.

Regards

Pascal

Cesar – Small is beautiful

May 30th, 2009 Comments off

cesarThis is the current microsite of the Swiss Cesar company.  It’s the online version of the “Small is beautiful” booklet which shows the dog owners where are the best places to go out for a walk with their furry friend. The users are invited to share their own best places with other users.  The tips will then be shown on a map (Google Maps) of Switzerland. My part in this project was the backend development. This time the underlying framework was CodeIgniter.  That’s a light-weight PHP framework which does a quite good job for this purpose. There is nothing special about this microsite. The interface between Flash and the backend consists of pure XML and POST requests. The Flash application was programed by Benjamin Herholz (bherholz.com). Good job by the way!  The responsible web agency was Assai Dialog + Digital (my current employer).
